Therapy & Somatic Experiencing

At this time, my practice is full, and I am not taking any new clients for ongoing therapy. I am still offering Beginning and Intermediate personal sessions for Somatic Experiencing trainees. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Introduction

Being trained as a psychotherapist, a Somatic Experiencing practitioner, and with ongoing study in Jungian depth psychology, our work together may involve various elements and ways of working with the psyche and the nervous system.  It may include more traditional talk therapy based in a relational and attachment-informed approach. With Somatic Experiencing as a major frame for my work, we may also be paying attention to the physical body and our physiological experience (sensations, nervous system states, impulses, posture, gestures).

At times nervous system healing work can include touch and contact to support regulation and resourcing, which will be discussed with each individual regarding comfort level and consent. Inspired by my work in the world of depth psychology, we will be holding space for the unconscious to emerge and to attend to it when it arises, perhaps in the form of images, dreams, symbols or archetypal energies.

People have come to work with me with a variety of needs and intentions, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma history, grief and loss, relationship challenges, and life transitions.  Through our work we may uncover underlying patterns in our thought processes, relational dynamics, nervous system states, unconscious material that contribute to ongoing distress or difficulty creating the life we want.

Our work will be oriented toward not just understanding and making meaning of these patterns and experiences but hopefully expanding our capacity to embody a different way of holding and moving through these experiences, opening up a new option for how to be connected to ourselves, to others, and to our lives.

Working in this way may take time, creating trust and safety, not only in our relationship together but in one’s own relationship to their nervous system and psyche as well. When we have been operating in certain patterns for so long, it can take time to feel it’s okay and safe enough to begin to change, to let go of something outdated and no longer necessary, and move into something new and different. It’s hard to give exact timeframes on how long this takes for each person, but I can be clear to say that the way I work is not about a quick fix. My hope is to create a space where someone can begin to trust their own healing process and to feel fundamental shifts in embodied ways. The intention is that someone can begin to walk differently through their lives, more connected to themselves, grounded in their bodies, with more capacity for what is challenging and difficult, and ultimately to feel more human and, dare I say, feel more love for themselves.

Please reach out for any questions about my work or to inquire about availability for new clients. I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation call to discuss, if this work and me would be a good fit for your needs at this moment.
